Really any help to help get me going on this identification would be useful. I found no other coin online like this and all the shops I take it to have no clue. It's actually pretty neat. There is a gold coating on it that is still visible and reflects off of light pretty well.

Not an ancient coin, more like an 18th century bronze coin or token.

I actually contemplated this. But honestly my gut feeling is telling me that is not true. I own a lot of coins and tokens from that era. Based on width, weight, no writing, and distinguished markings such as the neck line, not symmetrical patterns on side, and hair (sorry for the bad image)as well as the coatings something is telling me this is older and much rarer. Obviously, in my life and on the net, not one person has this coin/token. Unless, there was a master craftsman who just decided to make a coin for his wife or something... who really knows, I have stuff that is collected in museums... I may just donate it to them.

Sorry jakek, but whatever it is, it's not an ancient coin. Ancient coins are usually pretty thick and, just like modern coins, almost always are not one-sided unless someone deliberately ground away one of the sides. An object that was made intentionally uniface is usually a purpose-made medallion for jewellery or decorative purposes. This piece has been holed, twice with one of the holes broken, so was presumably considered a memento or good luck charm by someone who wanted to keep it even after the first hole broke.

I can't tell who the portrait is supposed to be; I can't even tell if it's male or female. Perhaps the French emperor Napoleon?
