ok Celtic here is another attribution challenge! N-23 or 24? I am thinking probably 23 because I cannot see the curved line on reverse by United. F-12 ish? http://www.ebay.com/itm/15163211114...RK:MEBIDX:IT
Definitely an N-23 which is an R.2. The fact that the left edge of the 1 all but touches the denticle and the little horn on the right top of the T in CENT are diagnostic. As far as grade I'll go as high as F-12 but the date is so weak I'll have to net grade it to 10 for the weak strike. The weak date kills an otherwise nice coin price wise. 1850 N-23 R.2 12/10.
23 and 24 are known for the very weak date at top of 5 and 0. Not going to make or lose much reselling this with the 16.50 price. Bought it first with the chance of N-24. Came up with 23 guess after.
I understand why EAC would downgrade it for the date but it's a strike artifact, not wear, so this is one of those places where we have to teach two sets of standards for the same grading scale. With that said, I wouldn't argue either 10 or 12 for this coin, but my leaning is toward the latter.
