I've been collecting a lot of Indian and Afghan coins lately because they're plentiful and inexpensive. This one looks brass coated, but Krause says the coin is 50% silver. Does a 1:1 ratio on a plated coin make sense?

50% silver coins can have a "plated" look, especially if the blanks were pickled prior to striking, to make the freshly minted coins look more silvery. I believe British and Australian .500 fine silver coins were treated this way.

In this specific case, I'd want to see the other side of the coin before bidding.

Thanks Sap. I've been looking for a book on Afghan coins, but the only one I can find costs over $100. You wouldn't have any suggestions would you?

In this case the seller's feedback is much too low to draw a bid from me.
