I got this half raw yesterday and was wondering how good of a deal I got. Can you guys give me an approximately grade and what you would think the approximate value for it is?

The is the first nicer walking liberty I have bought. My dealer didn't have any junk halves in but had this on his desk that he bought earlier. I just got done telling him about me finding the load of halves in a book the previous week and bringing it to the attention of the owner at another dealer, and he told me he might have something for me and brought this to me and asked if I wanted to buy it.

It has some some problems but overall is a super attractive coin in hand. Two small rim dings on the reverse and some red toning on the reverse. Could the red be removed with acetone or is it likely permanent? Would any of these issues make it upgradable by a TPG? I'm have no intent on having it graded, it's future home will be my dansco album.

I see some luster, but also some rub on the high spots. I'll say AU55 but not positive.

He sold it to me for $10 so I'm pretty sure I got a decent price.
Rest in Peace

AU-55 for me. I don't think the reverse spotting is toning. go ahead and try the acetone, it won't hurt the coin.

Will the spotting degrade the coin over time if not removed? I'm not quite comfortable using acetone itself from a safety standpoint.

It might not hurt the grading, but it takes the eye appeal way down.

Acetone is a perfectly safe organic solvent to soak coins in.

I'd be at AU-55 on this, for $10 that's a nice coin. Although not your intention, I see no reason that a TPG wouldn't slab it.

Yeah he told me it was ms but I knew I didn't have to worry because of the price haha. I meant I'm afraid of catching my apartment on fire with the acetone as far as storing it. Fire safety not coin or health.

Acetone is more volatile than gasoline. Store the one as you would the other. Me, I'm comfortable keeping a quart in the cupboard under the sink. The container is airtight and it's cool enough under there not to worry.
