Unfortunately, the Society for US Commemorative Coins (SUSCC) disbanded a few years ago due to a significant drop in membership and the increasing difficulty of getting fresh material for the group's quarterly journal. The group formed in 1983 and was active for about 30 years. Many of the field's most advanced collectors, researchers and dealers were part of the organization over the years. I was sad to see it go.
Just FYI: I wrote the text for the page that appears in the Whitman book to which you refer. I originally wrote it for the Society's web page - it was first used by Whitman for its annual "
Red Book" and then used again when it published the "
Red Book" specifically on commemoratives. I wrote it at a time when the organization was trying to better publicize itself and attract new members.
I've occasionally thought about trying to re-establish the club - I've just never been able to convince myself that there are enough active collectors of the series today who are willing to pay annual membership dues to keep the organization going and/or contribute articles for its publication. Maybe some day.
I'm not sure what board/chat room you are referring, so I can't make any comments about it.
Hope you enjoy your time here on CCF. There's lots of great commemorative content here. I hope you take the time to explore!
