Souvenirs from my tour of duty in Germany:

First commemorates the 500th anniversary of the birth of artist Albrecht Durer. It is typical 1-oz size and marked "1000" instead of .999. It is silver.

Second commemorates Otto von Bismark, same specifics as Durer.

The third, dated 1960, commemorates the 125th Anniversary of the German Railroad. It is thinner than the other two, same diameter and marked "1000" but has an artificial-looking toning.

I am curious if anyone has seen these before and if there is a "catalog" listing of such items.

edit: I have not tested the third with a magnet nor weighed it.

All three of these are new to me, the design on each one is really nice, and the fact that the first two appear to be MS and toned is a really nice bonus/find. The third one appears to have hair lines, possibly cleaned? I still like them all, nice job, and I hope you had a great time in Germany. Thanks for your service.

The Bismarck medal was one of several competing designs that were private issues of 1970-1971 in honor of the German Unification centennial.

retiredkper: Thank you for that info. I found one sold on Germany ebay for 22 euros + shipping. I thought that a good price for a medal of solid silver.

Also a smaller version in gold at 245 euros

steveo - thank you too. I have fond memories of my tour there, first son born in Nurnberg. My wife and I enjoyed wine and dine at a restaurant at the base of the castle depicted on the back of the Durer medal. There was quite a celebration in Nurnberg that year for Durer. We toured the Durer museum and viewed a wonderful display of his work including his famous self-portrait.

I have to say, I really like that railroad piece. Aside from the subject matter, the period-modern way the dated side is rendered is very attractive to me.
