My Dad has a nice collection of coins in his bank vault. He showed them to me recently and I'd guess around 200 or so Morgans and Peace are in there ! (he's got a bunch of other goodies too) At that time I was on a "Carson City" kick.......and he allowed me to look for any. I only found one and we came back and looked it up. Conservatively it graded about %570.00 worth. I forget the date now. He let me keep it though. Through the years he has given all kinds of really neat coins and/or sets. He has a "State Silver Dollar" set from the Franklin Mint in 1972. Said he paid $1,000.00 for it 20-25 years ago !! Anybody got any thoughts on that ? again....it's a STATE SILVER "DOLLAR" SET. I also have a Presidential Silver Dollar set ending with Nixon......again from the Franklin Mint many years ago........... don't know the value of this stuff

Welcome to the forum!

The Franklin Mint made a lot of neat items back in the day.

As near as I can tell, there is not much of a market for them today. They are basically worth the value of the silver. You might do a search on ebay for "Franklin Mint" to see if you can find any evidence to the contrary.

Thanks for the welcome "Bilbo" ! I'm glad I found this place ! Yeah I told my dad that since they're not minted by the US Govt. that they're not really proof silver dollars...... but he seems to think that with the "Quarter Mania" and " Presidential dollar Mania" that these sets would be coveted by many.... First of all neither he or I would ever sell anything.... just collect and hoard for future generations of our family. They are neat and beautiful coins and both are "proof" with papers and such. The States one is even in a nice cherry wood case... the President one is in Franklin Mint picture frame and holder. Yeah I'll check ebay on that when I get the chance. Not done much ebayin' before, but I'm seeing the obvious value to going there even if you don't buy, sell, or trade from there.
Thanks new buddy !

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your new coins.

As far as Franklin mint coins, I see those come into my local shop all the time and, unfortunately, they only have silver melt value. However, if you were to find someone that collects such pieces, you might get a decent price should you decide to sell. Of course, I know nothing about the specifc set you have, but, in general, Franklin mint items are laughed at by most coin collectors.

Yeah...hee hee.... My Dad has made a lot of bad purchases in his life with coins, but a lot of good ones too. He's 71 years old now. Through the years he's giving me a lot of different things...... some pretty interesting though. I will eventually go through it more carefully and post them on here. My own collection is always growing with stuff ! I get on a Large Cent kick and buy those, Morgans, Peace, Three Cents, mercury, buff nikles, etc etc. I just can't stop myself..... but buying smart, I'm learning is definately the key !
