I finally bought a flat clinch stapler on ebay. It's been a long time coming. Regular staples cause dents in my plastic pages in my binders.

Or you can be cheap like me and use a pair of needle nose pliers. One good squeeze and you can't tell the difference.

G'day, I found a flat-clinch stapler at my local stationer for $9.00. Works just fine. The flat-clinch reduces damage to binder-pages, AND to coins in adjacent pages.

djluster: I use ordinary staples. They come out flat. It's the stapler that matters. All staples are just thin metal: they bend as much or as little as the tool that works them.

I just received the stapler today. I like it but the staples are really small compared to regular staples so when I staple 3 sides of the 2x2's there are gaps and doesn't completely seal the holder and I don't wanna use a bunch of staples on it.

G'day ... again, I think I understand. My flat-clinch stapler uses standard staples, so I don't have the problem that NDS describes.
Mine only cost $9 new. I suggest you have a look in every stationer you pass. I had to look at 3 or 4, but I found one not far from home, and I live in a town of only 90,000.

This problem was happening only with the cardboard 2x2 holders for Ike dollars. The others were fine.

I use the standard slip joint pliers. Using pliers just adds another step to stapling the flips.

after processing a hundred coins on evening, I decided that the staple/mash with pliers method was for the birds. I have since picked up a MAX flat clinch stapler - I still use the pliers on thicker coins to get a good clinch, but it's by no means the flexfest it once was.

i bought 2 boxes of 5000 staples - should last me awhile
