My uncle left this with me in 1971 just before he "died." many other coins as well. but this one is particularly interesting. except, it has a hole in it. I would imagine some kid just wanted a penny on a string, maybe to give to a girl friend or something. I'm being told that with the hole it is worth, say 1 cent, but I doubt that. can anyone help with whether or not there may be numismatic value here or not?

I am curious about the hole problem too. I have inherited some Indian Head cents with holes and I am curious what that does to their value. I hope someone will comment with an answer.

Along with the hole the coin has been harshly cleaned. It has very little if any value as it is not market acceptable

I am a large cent collector primarily and unfortunately the coin has little value. You may get a few dollars for it just as interesting conversation piece but as a collectors item it isn't worth much.

Let's put it this way, it is worth a lot more as a sentimental reminder of your uncle than any monetary value.

It matters not one jot what the value of this coin is, damaged or not.
It came from your uncle, who is no longer with you.
That's very important.

My collection started off when I was a teenager, more than 40 years ago. My dad flipped a silver coin at me, after successfully picking a company safe. He had been asked to do so, because the keys had been lost. The coin had been forgotten, sitting on the floor of the safe for many years.

I still have the coin. It was certainly not a coin with significant numismatic value:
a common Geroge 1V shilling, 1826, in fine condition.

I still have the coin.

I don't have my dad anymore.

It may be worth a few dollars as others have suggested BUT it probably would not sell.
