Wow, what a day for me ! Got my first bust half (pics in forum) , found a Type C reverse 25c...and now this.

I always check out the Morgan box at my dealers, XF-AU coins $17 ea., just to see if there are any nice toned coins or anything interesting. I do not actively seek VAM's or anything, but I do like a die crack or two and some clash marks always sell a coin for me .

So I picked up this coin, a little bit of rim toning and some nice clash marks, no pics of clash marks specifically at this point. So have at it, I will post the grading pics right in the post and leave the VAM identifier a clickable link if you need it- but I think if you look close you can see it in the first picture...or is it second ? he he... Should be easy for anyone familiar with VAM's since I am not and found it right away after I got home and had more time to study at the coin.

^^ What he said.

Welcome to the Top 100 Club. That's an extremely nice example of a fairly scarce VAM, and maybe approaching AU58. The grade is obverse-limited, but strike quality might be in play with this one, so it's at that "impossible to grade thru photos" spot.

Ok, I'll bite. Where's the VAM part of the coin? The only thing I see is something funky behind the cap on the obverse, but it's probably my eyes and photography remnanats...

A small raised dot at the base of the neck above the curl of hair.

Thanks for affirming my attribution ! I have never looked for any VAM's on my Morgan's ( I don't have that many)but this may start me looking ! I bought the coin because I liked the look, the reverse die cracks , and the doubled clash marks.

When I got home I looked closer and decided to check it for a VAM ( I did not even notice the dot ! ). After going to http://www.vamworld.com/ I started looking. I tried the top 100 first not even thinking I had one , but figured it would be an easy place to start and lo and behold I became a member of the Top 100 club on my first click !

As exciting as it is , I realize now it means more hours spent at my local B & M - after the quarters and halves...now I gotta find those VAM's ...and do more research. Every day I see why it is impossible to know everything about our countries coinage, but I'm tryin !
