I agree with most on here Rick. "mums the word". I think it's great, and I also hope she never visits this forum just to see what you are up to!! Regardless, I think in due time she will tell you. I guess my only question would be if she is grossly overpaying, or just a few bucks here and there....If you can get the same coin for $10 on ebay, I think I would figure out a way to bring it up. "hey honey, check this out. Didn't you buy the first coin a while ago?" Something like that. If it's 5 or 10 dollars, shhhhhh.

It could be worse, my wife likes shoes. There is much less resale on a used slingback.
I think that as a married guy you need to ask yourself what is that big numismatic purchase that you have been putting off. This may be time to make your move.

This gives "coming out of the closet" new meaning! I say call her on it so you can enjoy your hobby together. I wish my wife collected.

rick I keep my mouth shut on this one. when she ready to show you what she got then that's the time to talk about it. personal if you bring it up she might think your invading her personnel areas its great she collecting I have a feeling she tell you when she gets them all or maybe give them to you when she has the complete set..

Here is a different slant....Devils advocate sort of thing. Poor woman. Here she is doing something that she obviously didn't want anybody to know about, and now everybody on the https://www. knows and is expressing an opinion about it. How would you like it if you were doing something that you wanted kept to yourself and you found out it was all over the web and strangers were talking about it?

My wife said to keep quiet and not let her know that you found them. She'll show them to you when she is ready.
As noted say nothing. Never, NEVER ask men anything about what to do about things with YOUR wife. You will get answerw from divorced men, men without wives, men slowly being sued by a women or a divorce lawyer looking for buisness.

You Guys crack me UP! I love your answers... I am a closet collector!! My husband does not collect coins... the closest would be the umpteen Weatherby rifles in the gun safe... he came home with 4 one time (he did get a screamin deal!) but he thinks a coin is a coin... 50 cents is 50 cents!! a $ is a $... What do you think he'd do if he went through my sock drawer and found my 3 half busts and my seated half... probably not much unless he knew how much they cost... (don't anybody be coming over and raiding my sock drawer... hmmm might have to move 'em now) Metalman... don't say anything... the searching ebay might be a good idea... but then again... if my husband showed me how much cheaper I could have bought something that I've been working on for sometime that he seriously collected... I might feel kind of foolish... which would certainly put a cloud over my collection and I definately would not be comfortable in telling him how much I spent... food for thought... from a wife... Kim

Why not 'accidentally' print out an ad for them from ebay, or where ever you can find them cheap.

If she visits here that is also a secret and she is the one that won't be able to say anything !
UMMMM I collect a few other things besides coins ,,one very similar to the other Husband LOL only shorter and smaller caliber !
I appreciate all of the answers and insight ,,I won't be saying anything about them ,,In fact I will probably add a few hours of OT so that its easier for her to buy them .

Hmm. What exactly are LOTR coins? Are they legal tender? Did Tolkein design them or something?

The first ones that GO pictured are actually coins of the shire ,, what my wife is collecting are more like the NZ silver coins with efigies of the characters from the movie on the reverse. this is the one I knew she bought .

Metalman, your OP is GREAT. What a wonderful surprise. As far as exposing the fact you know of her secret and the over-pricing of the items she buys well, that is a toughie, but by all means don't discourage her hobby.
Good Luck Mate Ben
