Hi USArmyParatrooper,

I live in the Bay Area too - San Leandro. I'd been trying to find coins shops.... which/where is this coin shop that you are talking about?

So far, I only found 1 coin shop, it's the one in Castro Valley - called Castro Valley Coin Shop. They are nice and can truly be called "coin dealer".

SilentAsian4Hire,

It's kind of a drive but not too far. I recommend Dale at "Macs Coins" in Sunnyvale. (408) 732-8575. GREAT guy, I highly recommend. His inventory is on the small side. But it seems to me the guys with the massive inventory are very unpersonable and overpriced. The cost of convenience, I guess. For an overall dealer (who specializes in ancients) I recommend an older gentleman (don't remember his name or number) at Treasure Island in Palo Alto.

Thanks,

You said "at Treasure Island in Palo Alto"? I thought Treasure Island is in SF bay? If you find any more information, please let me know.

There might be one in SF. Palo Alto is in the south bay, if you didn't know. I doubt "Treasure Island" is a very unique name.

SilentAsian4Hire and USArmyParatrooper,

I've been reading your posts with great interest - I'm also in the Bay Area and have been trying to find a good local shop. My town has several but they don't have the "feel" that some people have mentioned in this thread. One owner suggested that I not purchase anything that doesn't have a melt value. Evidently, when society collapses you won't be able to turn in your 1909s VDB for food or shelter. The other two are behind bullet proof glass. One of these was very nice, but clearly stated that he was done dealing with "kids and old ladies." He did offer to sell my 40 MS65 Morgans but I don't exactly have that kind of cash laying around.

I'll check out the places you suggested. Do you know of anything a bit further north, maybe around Oakland or Berkeley?

Thanks!
