Hasn' this been a fine years for coins, if for not much else in these scary times? I mean, instead of hunkering down waiting for the next disaster, the mint has produced a number of very imaginative and beautiful coins - the new bison and ocean-in-view nickles are the highlights, but has anyone had a good look at a cameo of the Kansas quarter (also be-bison'd on the reverse) an extraordinary beautiful coin: serene in it's mirrored lakes of pure field moored by the strong bison devise showing the Bison sort of looking at us as though a pitcher from the mound, or a victor in war. The most gorgeous thing about this coin is the sparcity of cameo'd images and focus on the purity of the mirrored fields. It takes my breath away, but then I'm a sucker for cameo proofs. I think it's the best Statehood Quarter design with Connecticut, Vermont. Oregon and New York being my four runners up. IN that order. Its interesting that the Mint is selling two rolls for $32 dollars. Makes me want to buy a few proofs.

Stay cool,
Stephen

2005 did indeed see a few cool coins. The shame of it is that 2006 will see the end of the nickel series. 3 more years of the quarters. Enjoy it now!

I'm in love with the OR coin. KS is an even better design. I like the USMC design (although 230 is NOT a significant anniversary-50th annniversary of polio vaccine was much more timely in 05-hard to overstate it's impact)

On the greyside Sasketchewan centennial is nice, too.

I would have to agree that 2005 has been a good year for coins. It's been special also because my eight-year-old grand daughter has become interested in Statehood Quarters, and now anxiously looks through my change for them.
