Here's the latest pickup off the "tray of shame" I've mentioned in previous posts. Colligo ergo sum

I wish you'd stop saying tray of shame I want to move near your LCS where the owner is obviously experiencing early onset How is that coin not mid MS, and in the bad bin? Fields are spotless and cheek is really good.

The only shame in that tray LC is I don't live nearby. Nice catch, I like the look of Anna blushing.

Quote: How is that coin not mid MS, and in the bad bin? The "tray of shame" as I've termed it for this dealer isn't so much a "bad bin" as it is a "we don't care to bother with these" repository. They'll hold back better dates but common raw Morgans aren't any big deal for them, hence XF/AU to low MS end up there for the quick flip, and sometimes they put stuff there that other shops would clearly think worthwhile to at least submit for certification. It's very hit and miss, and there're plenty that I pass on, but some really nicer pieces (like this one) do turn up among these "culls". As for the other part of your comment, a lot of New Orleans Morgans get tagged as AU because the typically incomplete strike is mistaken for slight wear. This strike is actually pretty good for an "O" and the key thing for me as to whether it ever circulated or was mishandled is that I cannot even under really good lighting identify any telltale breaks in the original luster. On the other hand, I have seen some really scuffy Morgans that still grade MS, those marks being attributed to contact with other coins while in Treasury storage. But if this one is a "super slider", well I'd much rather have it than a terribly baggy MS61.

This is actually a really tough call, only because the surfaces have been stripped and are toning anew. Were that original toning, I would testify in court that the coin hasn't circulated. Your images are that good. But with postcleaning toning, I can't reach that far just from images, however sharp. I'll say for sure it hasn't circulated since it toned.
