Definitely an N-12 as you said. Easy one. As far as grade I'll say solid F-12. As far as the surface it's a bit scudzy, try the water, acetone Verdi-Care treatment and it will look a lot better. 1849 N-12 R.1 12/12-
Well now I've got my Penny Whimsey 1793 - 1814 and Noyes 1816 - 1839, so what do you think would be a couple of the better books to reference for 1840 and newer LCs?
For the later dates the best reference is "The Die Varieties Of Untied States Large Cents 1840-1857" by J.R. Grellman. Bob Grellman is the definitive expert on Braided Hair Large Cents. Ordering info can be found here; http://www.largecents.net/books/latedatebook.html Another excellent resource is "United State Copper Cents 1816-1857" by Howard Newcomb. This is the main book I use for attribution but seeing as it was published in 1945 it is a little out of date. That book can be purchased from Amazon.com and can be found online for free here; http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?...ew=1up;seq=5
