I am thinking this dime is 1827. I got it in a cull lot. Can you see the date? It appears bigger than the usual silver dime.

It is actually larger so it would be before that date.

I can't make out a date but my gut feeling is it the small diameter. The strong rim on the obverse, smaller denticles, and star behind the cap resemble the modified design on the small diameter more so than on the large diameter. In the condition of this coin, I would expect the denticles on a large diameter to be much more worn.

Add to this from the Reference Book.

It has been customary to classify the capped bust dimes into "large" and "small" types corresponding to the years 1809-1828 and 1828-1837 respectively. Research by the authors suggests this division to be at best misleading and at worst incorrect. A comparison of diameters of the various year issues from 1809 to 1837 shows no clear separation between large and small diameter. Instead there is a gradually reducing diameter from 1827 to 1832 with diameters modestly increasing again from 1834 to 1837.
