I was roaming the internet and came across "how to make a light box for taking pics of coins" & decided to try it out.

Here is the link to the website:

Here is the format I followed:

You can tell I moved the light around on a few pics...

I think I will make a bigger one as I am limited with the size I made, but overall really like the outcome.

I hope others try to make this set-up...

You really want to move the glass and not the light to get a good modified axial effect. What that diagram is missing is something set in place to block direct light from hitting the coin as well as something to limit or eliminate ambient light, but it looks like you figured that out... When I take pictures of coins to sell, I take axial and direct lighting pictures, as axial pictures make luster difficult to discern.

My setup is quite similar to the one here: http://www.sigma-2.com/camerajim/cjgcoins.htm

It is also great for coins in slabs when you correct for contrast.

Your setup is called axial lighting and is particularly useful for good pictures of Proofs, CAM/DCAM's, DMPL, etc.
Also very good for colored toning.

We only recommend axial lighting for Proofs and toners. It is too large a compromise for other coins, as you reduce your available light by 75% - that's all that reflects onto the coin - and it's not particularly good with luster. It's also extraordinarily sensitive to outside light reflected into the area.
