What is the difference in value, if any, between proof sets in hard plastic vs. soft plastic packages? I also have (all the) proof sets that seem to have been taken out of their original packages and put into a book long ago.

Any thoughts/answers?

Thanks,
Jim

well this all depends on the collector I guess, some would rather have the OGP (Original Government Package) and then there are some that break them open anyway to put them in albums and such and could care less about the OGP being intact. A proof coin is always a proof coin no matter what happens to it so I don't guess it matters how its packaged as long as the packaging that was used didn't impair the surfaces of the coin

If you go back far enough, you really don't want those Proofs to remain in their original packaging as they could cause more harm than good.

My dad has a proof set in original packaging from 40 years ago or so, and it has one coin that is badly damaged and two others with slight damage and it is still sealed .... never opened ! So, I have some concerns about that too for my own collection. I'm looking for someone in my family 200 years ago to still have and keep adding to my collection ! (Naive though ....... divorce and/or lawyers would eventually get it probably !) Ha Ha Kidding.... I hope
