Dick,
Right--Canadian coins typically use the "medal" die orientation in contrast to the our US coins. There are some rare cases of Canadian "coinage axis" varieties, but I haven't found a way to test for this in the field, nor finding any pattern coins.

If I have some time tonight, I'm going to put together a introductory tutorial for photoshop.
