Hello all.

I posted a little info on my interests in the Welcome forum but I have a question.

I recently acquired some confederate notes. Nothing "earth shattering" but I like the history. My question is about 1 note in particular. There were 3 1863 fifty cent notes and 2 of them had green treasury stamps and 1 with a red treasury stamp.

I tried to find a good book at Barnes and Noble to help me in learning and putting value on the bills but couldn't find anything that listed confederate money except for the Official Black Book and it doesn't have much. I tried researching the internet on the "red" stamp and all I could find was 1 website that said "the scarcer red stamp".

Does anyone have any info on the rarity and value of this note? Also, a good book or website suggestion would be appreciated. Being a novice, I would estimate the note in F condition.

PS-I will see if I can do the picture thing as I really enjoy when others put up a picture.

Here is the actual bill that I am talking about. I have seen several with the green stamp. Also, anyone care to give a grade?

I cannot tell you much about your note but I can recommend a couple books for you- Comprehensive Catalog of Confederate Paper Money by Grover C. Criswell and Confederate States Paper Money 10th Edition by Arlie Slabaugh. You might not be able to find them in a retail store but they could be found at Barnes and Nobles website, Amazon, or ebay.

I appreciate the input guys and I will have to go online and try and track down a good book.

Anyone care to try and give a grade on the note? Since the pic, I went back and unfold the end edges...the bill is a full note and not missing any pieces as the picture suggests.

I'm not every sure, but I think it looks like a reproduction of some sort.

I am 97% sure that its not a reproduction. I have 2 others that have the green treasury stamp and did find documentation that confirmed that some were issued with a red treasury stamp.
