Different specialty labels are assigned to many modern coins depending on the circumstances of their release. Some may be called first strikes, some may be in conjunction with their release at a particular coin show. Some be autographed by someone special. Whatever the reason the collecting public has embraced this new form of collectible. NGC Chairman Mark Salzberg comments on this phenomenon.

It's relevant information, but it's turning numismatics into Beanie Babies. I do not support it, and I don't care to listen to what Mr. Salzberg has to say about it.

Pretty soon they will have to start using foot long labels.
