The difference between 31.1g and 31.072g or .028g copper

It's just a shorthand way of saying each 1 ounce coin contains 0.999 ounces of silver and the remainder ("balance") is copper. So that would be 0.001 ounce of copper, I guess.

Which begs the question: Why even mention such a miniscule amount of copper in an ASE? In 90% silver, sure. Just seems a bit odd.

I think it's just because there will always be the one wise guy who asks, "But if it's only 99.9% pure silver, what's the other .1%?" Probably a senator.
