Looks like the device was running out of room on the edge of the die. The 1968 dies looked a lot like that, but in 1969 they redesigned the dies with the new master dies design. Sometimes there is a Grease Fill issue on the dies. This may have been the case with your coin also. The die may have crumbled away in that area. Hard to tell from the image provided. I would keep it for now. It is different than what you normally see. (here is one on an older coin)
That's a pretty neat looking penny Cindy Wood. I don't think there's a Cud there though. to me it looks like the penny is just showing it's years. Very nice 1910-S Coop, wish I had one. Dexter, welcome to the Forum. You could see if you can get a clearer picture and start your own post?
