this is on its way to me as we speak and I have some questions.

is it valuable?

is it a known variety?

if not known, is it a candidate for a new major variety and list able in Krause( not in it now)?

sorry, I cant get better images right now

Most likely an overdate of 1834 / 3. Pretty neat as well as the error.

As of varieties / overdates - I'm not certain if there is a catalog that keeps track of all known overdates.

thanks, what do you think is under the 3? I was thinking it could have been they switched the position during punching (43 instead of 34)but don't see any thing else to say the thing under the 3 is a 4.

This type of coin was first made in 1830. It is unlikely it is an overdate of 3 over 2.

If it is something, it's more likely the mintmaster reengraving the number 3 to correct defects.

I will probably have the coin today, I will see if I can do a scan of the date and post it. I bought it in the $30 range.
