Hi all -
New to all of this, but my grandfather used to collect coins and I just came across a few.

Can anyone help me with the value of this 1901 Silver Dollar? Seems to be in pretty good condition, but, of course, I'm no expert

Thank you in advance.
Jane

Hi Jane and to CCF!... There are experts here for almost every coin ever minted so if u need more help with your grad father's stash dot be shy

Your coin is a Morgan silver dollar. THE most popular and most collected US coin series. Unfortunatly your coin is a circulated common date and is worth in the $25 range.

First off, welcome.

Thank you for the excellent photos. Your coin is definitely circulated and ought to grade in the VF (very fine) range. It's actully a 1901-O struck at the New Orleans branch mint and as such would be considered a common issue. Value will not be too high. I would expect this to sell at retail for less than $40, and a dealer would be unlikely to pay more that $15-20 for it.

Welcome!

If you are interested in selling you can skip the middle man (a coin dealer) and sell them yourself on ebay. You will get more $$ that way. Make sure you know what you have before you sell. In the Morgan dollar series there are a lot of die varieties that can be worth significantly more than a normal strike Morgan dollar.

So ask questions first. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here on the forum.

Grade VF-25 details, retail value about $20.
