Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 04/15/2015 10:41 am They are NOT plated with nickel. They are a copper core with a layer of coppernickel alloy bonded to each side. Each of those outer layers are about 25% of the weight of the coin and are 25% nickel. It is not a plating. And the overall composition of the coin is about 87.5% copper and 12.5% nickel.
