Talk about a soft launch.
This series just showed up on the Mint website. Four coins set at $99.95 each.
1 oz $20 38 mm Mintage 8000
"A FIRST: Includes a black light flashlight that makes the lightning bolts on the coin radiate across the sky! First coin in the subscription: Summer Storm—In nature, there are few displays of raw power that are more spectacular and breathtaking than the sudden flash of a lightning bolt against the dark sky. Through the innovative use of technology, all the power and light of a thunderstorm on a hot summer day blows across this coin's surface, re-creating Mother Nature's most electrifying light show to stunning effect—all in the palm of your hand."

Over priced, high mintage , no box with sub, no sub mintage numbers, but the coin "picture" does looks good lol. But not enough for me to buy one.

Be honest, this coin looks quite nice to me. But I am tired of RCM's coins series. Let us look at RCM's Maple Canopy Series. I was crazy about the first coin - Maple Canopy Spring. Looks so beautiful. Then RCM released second coin. what an ugly second coin and looks quite different than Spring coin. 2nd coin directly ruined whole series.

Looks a little like a reverse image of the Varley Go7 coin with colour and lightning bolts added. I can't recall any other coin having two designers contributing to the reverse. The coins shows both designer's initials in white which I find distracting.
Still wondering about this one being released today. It seems odd that there was nothing from the rep and it's not during normal release periods. Makes me think that the website admins might have inadvertently put it out there. Or maybe they just wanted to have something new to sell to the thousands of callers who are looking for the Tunes coins. :)

A flashlight could come in handy if you forget to pay your hydro bill instead of your coins. lol...

These novelty coins do not capture my interest - with or without a flashlight. I guess I am too traditional in my collecting interests!

The flashlight is a UV light which can be bought for $2 on ebay. You can't really use it for everyday use but its handy to look at stamps, paper currency, and passports where can see the fluorescent markings.

hmmm, I quite like this one. Plus my other $2 chinese UV light isn't that good. Maybe this one will show the cat pee and and other nasties better. lol

"soft launch" yes, but followed today by an email from my rep. He didn't come out and apologize for the delayed notification, but I do believe that somebody 'pushed the button' preemptively, as the release isn't until July.

Doesn't sound reliable. On the description page, I don't see a comment about how the material that makes the light will last foreever on the coin. It does say so in many other coins of regular glow-in-the-dark. The idea is okay, but the design looks quite vulgar. Doesn't look too different from other coins RCM has released. Sometimes, when I get emails from RCM, I can't even tell if they're selling a coin from 2011, when I first started taking emails from them.

Like Justsilver wrote, I've also lost confidence in RCM subscription series. The second coin in the canopy series probably dragged the price of the first and the forth down. Since the coin in question right now doesn't look that great, I would wait until all the coins come out and buy at a discount. Or, simply, dismiss the whole series as overpriced.

Dcadon wrote ""soft launch" yes, but followed today by an email from my rep." Strange, I'm MC without a rep and I received the email about these yesterday.

It does say so in many other coins of regular glow-in-the-dark. Shouldn't be a problem as they are using phosphorus ink commonly used on paper money and stamps for decades. This type of ink is only visible with a UV (Black Light) light. I have stamps from the 1970's with the fluorescent ink clearly visible with my UV lamp.

As many of you I try to reduce spending - look´s like I´m not so efficient as others but I do my way :-) Nothing is worse than to see your high priced coins selling two months or even less @ 40 or 30% discount.
However I bought one the subscription of these and hope no-one will buy it.... so at least the mintage is lower than 8000..
