I had a buyer contact me about shipping to Russia. I am not sure about doing it or not. My listings say no international shipping but he messaged me any way. Any thoughts.........

Ask yourself "do I really want the money **now** or can I hold on to the item until I get a US buyer" and "do I really want to risk $X".

I got an offer like that a while ago, but the UK buyer had a US contact who made me an offer, which I accepted since I got to ship the item somewhere in the contiguous states (which is what I've limited all my listings to). I don't feel comfortable selling internationally on ebay. Buying internationally, on the other hand, I'm not a fan, but open to it; and have done it plenty of times...eBay has buyer protection after all, buying is less risky.

I agree. I personally, only ship to Canada or the US. That's all for ebay. In the past, I have made exceptions for CCF members (shipping to Australia and the UK), but Russia is a whole different story. Not sure how trustworthy the buyer seems on the surface, but personally I would not take the risk unless, I was getting paid via Paypal gift and the buyer was willing to assume all risk.

I ship all over the world- %-wise, shipping to Russia is only a bit more risky than most EU countries, just obviously use common sense when shipping, based off of the value of the item...

That being said, I would not be shipping a $1000 coin to Russia...

I once sold a zuchetto hat owned by pope pius xii (the pope during ww2) on ebay for $4,000 and had to ship it to Switzerland safely. I decided to go registered international mail. It got there quickly and without incident...
For expensive items I recommend this approach.

I can say from my own experience that, well, you're correct to assume it's a bit risky; the Russian postal system is a little crazy.

That said, only one of the packages sent to me (that I'm aware of - still don't know what happened to last year's Secret Santa) took more than two months to be received, and that one was sent from within the country. (Only two took more than six weeks, for that matter.)
