JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

6 boxes of halves from Chase and 2 boxes from my new bank across the street.

1 new bank box was all filthy, slimey, had a dull film corrosion coating on the coins (hard to describe) and they don't slide off of each other when going through a roll (not sure how everyone else searches but I unwrap, stack in my right hand, and flick the top coin in the stack into the palm of my left hand and these sticky types SUCK) Anywho I have had maybe 3 or 4 boxes over the years that were like this and they all had silver. Sure enough this box had 3 40%ers and few NIFC. Second box skunk.

One of the Chase boxes was the same dirty style of coins and sure enough 3 more 40%ers and a nasty proof. Another with a lesser percentage of the nasty coins had 3 more 40%ers.

This just goes to show that when all of the banks use Loomis you can get half the same dump at one brand bank and the other half at another brand bank. I guess the same applies to a monster box dump where even if you picked up 12 boxes and one was awesome the straglers may be halfway on the other side of town.

At first I thought maybe the coins were stored in a basement as most were 1970's with a few 40%ers but now I think they came from a water fountain.

On a collector side note the Chase branch has been going through new tellers on a weekly basis. I one of the new tellers in her 20's on Monday and seemed to be caught off guard when I asked for 6 boxes of halves and a box of nickels and cents. Today she knew my name, had everything ready, and told me one time an old lady came in to here regular branch and wanted to dump a ton of silver halves. She told the later to wait and called a coin dealer she said he father knew and he flew over and paid the old lady $10K. She said her father had a few S VDB but didn't know that date so I told her 1909 (not sure if she was testing me to see if I was a real collector or just one of the rim searchers or if she really forgot ;) ) She said she found one in her tray and took it home and she and her father went to the coin store because he wanted to show her how much it was worth.

9 40%ers, some NIFC, 2 holes, 1 proof, 1 ate up, 1 struck though grease date, and a 1973 Panama. Also had a carpet fiber ender and 8 or so rolls with pocket lint.

we made it to 1000 pages! lifts my glass of wine - heres to the next 1000! and hopefully many more great finds for us all!!!

Yes, finally page 1000! What a milestone. Glad I was able to post on this page. I have been looking forward to it for a LONG time.

I haven't been able to do much CRH lately since my wife and I welcomed our son. I finally had a bit of free cash this week so I searched banks for any loose halves. After going through about $450 of a mixture of CWR, BWR, and loose halves, I managed to find 2 '64, 2 proofs and several NIFC. I've got some free time today so hopefully I can track down some more. Wish me luck, and I had to make sure I got on page 1000!

I even got some half dollars to celebrate the occasion, however I didn't find anything.
