got a box from a different branch they said they use loomis I know I seen truck at there location,,box was brinks searched it found a 40 so not bad, have 2 boxes on order there   |

arby, I think the writing on the one coin says "Plano Texas", as in the town where Plano fishing tackle boxes originated. By the way, your finds are always impressive. Even more impressive is you are apparently able to obtain AND dump all those halves in what you have mentioned is a small town!

My first thought when I saw this coin in the stack was SILVER, not so much. It is not plated is it Polished or Not? I don't see swirl marks, but I am no expert. This was in the 3rd box of the 8. I wanted to see what my CC Family thought. When you rotate the Obverse it does not have the cartwheel and that makes me think someone polished it. Also The detail on the Obverse. The reverse has the cartwheel. Just thought I would share. Please tell me what you all think.   Its like a Mirror?   Thank you for any input. I believe its polished. "LOVE THE HUNT!"

Nice commemorative coin BernieZ, I believe that is two in a week here. I have searched over 150,000 coins and haven't pulled one or a sticker coin. Iontyre, it is definitely not plated. I notice that Proofs don't have the cartwheel either. Is it possible it could be struck that way. I have seen similar coins in the 90's almost proof like, never like this.

Maybe not plated, but it sort of looks painted. There is a paint used to create mirrored surfaces that would look exactly like that. And you can see specks of copper on the rim, as if the paint cracked or peeled in those spots. It certainly wasn't struck that way, the reverse would have looked similar.

I'm stumped, it doesn't look like paint, I dropped it in some acetone and nothing happened. I even tried to scrape an area and nothing came off. I will hold on to it, Who knows, maybe someone else will come across one.

Well Arby, I have a 72 that looks similar to yours. all silvery gray with no copper showing. no idea why it would be like that, rubbing alcohol nor vinegar, nor anything has caused it to change color on any spots. it looks dark gray in areas like silver would tarnish. I am going to try taking it to a jeweler to see if they got any ideas. I had honestly forgotten I put the thing in a jar last month until cleaning to prepare for a new bag of pennies (which came as boxes instead). I can't figure out what it is either, but I will keep mine aside until I do. maybe someone just plated a bunch at one point and they just got spread around. did high schools used to do things like that in chemistry or only middle schools dissolving pennies in ammonia?
