That's crazy good, Cook. Do you just order boxes from your bank? I've got to figure out how to dump/acquire halves, there seems to be a method?

Question, do banks out in the country have more silver..versus city banks?

Great finds everyone. I won't be searching for a while. I have to have some back work done. Can't lift the boxes anymore and I won't allow my Wife to carry them for me. I'll keep reading though. Good luck to everyone.

Yes, I order boxes from 2 different banks each week. One bank gets me 4 boxes ($2000.) and the other gets me 2 boxes ($1000.) per week. In my case getting halves hasn't been that big of a deal, getting rid of the ones I don't want is where the problem begins. I've been getting all my halves from the same banks for about a year, but have gone through a few dump banks in that time. Luckily one of my pick-up banks has a coin counter and is willing to take my dumps, therefore I try to take the tellers at each bank something like chocolates every now and then to show my appreciation. Always good to stay on the good side of the tellers since they are the ones you'll be dealing with 99% of the time. Unless you happen to find a bank somewhere that's taken in some customer rolls or have had a few boxes sitting in the vault for a few years it's not likely to make any difference where you get the coins. Some weeks I go through 6 boxes and don't find a single piece of silver, then there are weeks like last week when I get a few ounces, you never know what you're going to get from one box to the next.

Murphy, good luck with your back problem. I have chronic back pain and know the agony that goes along with back problems. I too usually carry my halves, but sometimes if the wife is along she'll grab a box for me.

Swing away! When I didn't have enough money to buy $500 boxes of halves, I use to go by every bank I passed and go through the drive through and ask if they have any Half dollar or Eisenhowers I could get. A few times nothing, but most of the time I got silver. Have $50 in your car at all times you never know. One time I wasn't really in the mood to ask for halves but I did. They had 5 rolls of Customer Wrapped Halves $10 a roll. I said yeah, I'll take them. I went out in to the car thinking I was about to look through someone elses dump coins. 97 of 100 coins were Silver! You never know. If you have a positive attitude and keep asking you will find them. Good Luck

Rookie Cards,

To make a baseball analogy, Home Run Hitters usually strikeout the majority of the time. But when they hit a Home Run, boy is it worth it!!

I'm sure everyone on this thread has struck out quite a few times, but then they get on a hitting streak. You can't hit the ball if you don't swing.... Ok I'll stop

Good Luck

Rookie cards don't get discouraged too quickly, if you do you may give up before you hit anything. I think I went either 18 or 19 boxes one time without a single piece of silver. Talk about bored out of your mind. My best week thus far was between 25-30 oz. of silver (don't remember the exact number) and most of it came from 1 box.

RCook, very nice numbers, those dry spells really suck but when you hit a good streak it makes one never want to give up. As of now I believe the only way not to get silver is to stop searching. Its only a matter of a box before you find that beautiful white metal. Maybe if I hit 100 box in a row skunk I might stop for a while, but what if its the 101 box that has the silver. AAAHHHH! That is what just might keep me going the what if. I love this blog because I see others finding silver as long as that keeps happening I am in for the very long road.

Finally found another bank that will see me bags from their coin counter. They pull their bags when half full ($500 for halves). Picked one up today and only found one silver but at least it was a 90% 1964 in really nice shape. Now all I need to do is dump the remainder and wait till I can get back to that bank.

I haven't taken a break yet with the exception of having one bank stop ordering for a couple weeks while I arranged for another dump bank. I'm like you, I think what if the next box is the big one and I miss it?
