Very nice finds Olfdordman and gsr congrats. Bit of a starnge story with these coins. Go to bank ask for halves teller says I have $5 worth but they are not silver. I say OK no problem i'll take them. She lays them out 3 Ben's and 3 90%. Teller sitting at a desk yells over I have $30 in halves they have been searched no silver. Again I say I'll take them another Ben a couple of 90% and about 14 40%. I have gotten silver from this bank in the past. I just thought this was crazy. The other 2 40% came from another location.

Wow.

Maybe the tellers were looking for a couple of odd edges and since all of the edges looked the same they thought they weren't silver?

Cool finds!

Anyone else being charged for boxes of halves?
Last bill for $87.75/12 boxes. First 15 rolls are free,
$.15/roll after that. What a rip. What if I was buying pennies.

GREAT find AGAIN Cabo!!! Funny that the tellers said no silver. It's funny because the tellers back in the late 70's and early 80's mainly new what silver was. I think the younger tellers have no clue.

Bish: that's crazy the fees they are charging you. Check your bank disclosure on fees, I'll bet there is NO disclosure on those fees for private account holders. call them on it. I have been getting some grief on returns to my dump banks, space, time spent unrolling into bags, etc. One teller complained that I was 50 cents short on a prior roll and return...14 boxes!!! Give me a break, I have been WAY shorted on Loomis and Brinks machine wrapped rolls, they do not have a bullet proof roll machining process.

Banks are businesses, not public services. It is their sandbox, so their rules. They can charge whatever they want. If we do not like it, we can take our business elsewhere, but do not be shocked if they make no effort to retain us. We are small potatoes compared to those large corporate accounts and the fact is, servicing roll hunters eats into their profits.

I hear you Jbuck! Let's hope they don't make the fees universal. I think the roll activity is a tiny fraction of their distractions, not a lot of people really do this. They probably have more excess expense with clients that need help reconciling and interpreting their checking accounts and statements every week, need help understanding their 1099, ordering checks, etc.

You may be right, especially if a branch only has one or two people sourcing them for boxes. However, I like to believe those who are just getting loose half dollars or customer wrapped rolls out of their drawers are doing the tellers a favour.

Envision this scenario... a branch gets several hunters coming in ordering boxes and that volume is noticed by the branch manager (deliveries are not free). They either handle it locally (adding fees, declining boxes to consumers, etc.) or they submit a suggestion up the food chain where all branches do the same. Of course, that manager gets a nice bonus for increasing corporate profit.

I firmly believe the prime days of CRH are well behind us (which is why I no longer do it). For those still in the game, good luck!

Check the edge and weight. If it's silver it should have a silvery edge and weigh 12.5 grams, if it weights 11.37 grams and has a copper edge you know it's clad.

Been awhile since I posted. Six boxes back, yielded a '64 and a '65.
Previous 2 boxes yielded '65 and '67.
Then this week 2 boxes totaled with 4 1964, and 1 1967, 1 1969, and 2 1968. Plus over 40 NIFC and 4 more S proofs and a gold plated one. The wife wanted the gold plated one.

Just over 2 oz. of silver.
