Been a while since I have gotten any bags that had any significant silver in them. Friday night I got a nice one.
A $1k bag yielded....
39 - 40% including a 1970S proof and a bicentennial S proof.
9 - 90% kens including what appears to be a proof that is DML.
5 - Walkers (45, 45D, 42S, 41, 34S)
2 - Franklins (61D, 50)
Non AG finds:
3 - Clad S proofs
1 - Clad 1986 Nation of Immigrants half.
$4.73 in extra change
A Fender guitar pick
A presidential token - John Quincy Adams
20 cent Australian coin.
The bag was short $6.50 which I suspect some of the junk and extra coins were counted as halves. In the extra change there was 4 dollar coins, 2 quarters, 2 dimes and 3 cents. At this point, I have no complaints...

Well looks like I'm out of the silver hunting. After I emailed my bank and asked if I could spect what bags to take or take them home and if I weigh them and they're way off just return them unlocked. Well, got an email today thay they don't like that I'm stressing their coin machines and I'm being too much of a Pain I guess. Oh well guess that ends that. Funny thing is I brought every one of these concerns up to them and they assured me that there was not a problem. They even told me not to go to another bank and just return them at their coin machine. Sigh

Scott, Thanks for that info on metal detecting. It sounds like fun. I've haven't tried it yet, but maybe when the weather gets a little warmer around here... Two boxes today -----zip----- I'm starting to questions my dumping strategy. I pick up at 3 different Chase branches and dump at 2 others. Usually my boxes are marked with a 4 digit number. But the ones I got today were marked with an inspection date of "MAR 23 2011". I'm wondering if I'm starting to get my coins back.....?  Any advice on dumping? |

I can see a bit of copper color on the rims but the weight is about 11.6 grams, compared to 11.2 grams for a typical business-strike Cu-Ni Bicentennial half. The weight and the bright white color I believe confirm this is a silver-clad proof. Do you agree? This is just how I see it, but it looks like a Cu-Ni clad proof to me. The copper band looks like copper (because it is ~100% pure copper). On the 40% silver clad it would have a dull gray tinge to it (because it would be 20.9% silver, 79.1% copper). |

Which would you consider worse:
Having free silver, then seeing it dry up, or not get it in the first place?

2 boxes and $200 off of a bank coin machine box 1 18=40% 3='64 1='42 walker 1='02 1='07  Box 2 1='04 D 1='05 D 1='08 P 1="gold plated" 1972 with dates 1960 and 1985 stamped on the obverse (anybody know much about these? this is my second that I've come across...) $200 from bank 4=40% Also, I found a really shiny bicentennial with a completely silver rim. Any thoughts on this? Is it pure nickel? |

Got 2 boxes today. It seems lately at one of my supply banks, the last few boxes have been compromised. Today was no different and I'm beginning to wonder if someone there is weighing them for silver and taking out and replacing rolls. Has anyone ever ran into this?
