The scratches should be sufficient to garner a Details grade, so all that remains is if it's Uncirculated or not. I'm guessing they said not - AU Details. As a "righteous" coin it'd have a good case for AU58.

I did not consider it to be a details coin until dave mentioned. If it's problem free, easy 55, otherwise, unfortunately AU-Details.

Very nicely done SsuperDdave.

In fact an AU58 CAC coin none the less. This is a coin my local coin guy is selling and I'm seriously considering adding to my collection. Given the grade, any ideas on value? He's asking $1500, but having taken a look at the PCGS site and previous auctions ... that seems a bit more than I care to pay. He appears to be pricing in a premium for the CAC sticker part of the mix.

I haven't had the coin in hand to inspect, but looking forward to doing so. The seated liberties may be favorite coin design of them all so hard to resist these guys (gals).

Walk on past, gmwatson. That isn't an unfair price for PCGS/CAC AU58, but that coin does not get a righteous slab the next time it's submitted. It's scratched on both faces. It's not worth a $1500 risk. That's a shame, because the eye appeal is otherwise off the charts.

I have no clue how it got through. It's a poor recommendation for PCGS and CAC both.

If, in hand, the scratches are far less intrusive - and I'm not ruling out the slight possibility of planchet involvement - you'd be paying about a $250 premium for the bean.

Well you never know what he'd take for it. Might be willing to come off his asked price significantly ... depends what he's into it for.

One, I need for my Dansco so this may be a decent piece I could crack and put in service. I'll have to take a close look at the scratches, if I can get the right deal ... may want to pull the thing from the slab. Could be a good fit for the album if the price is right.

I'm kinda gravitationally pulled to it too, if the truth be told. It's a beautiful coin. And this issue is getting pretty scarce on the ground in that grade. Maybe 100 in Mint State.

Look him in the eye and ask what he thinks the coin would get if it was resubmitted, with those marks.

I'm surprised this one got a green bean with the surface issues.
