Spink - On 23rd April 2015, Spink London will hold its first auction of Orders, Decorations, Campaign Medals & Militaria in 2015.

At the forefront of a diverse 666 lots of British and Foreign Orders, Decorations and Medals, is the Superb Waterloo Medal to Major Arthur Rowley Heyland, 40th Foot, who was wounded several times during the Peninsular War, including at Talavera and Badajoz. At the Battle of Waterloo, on the 18th June 1815, he had his sword shattered and his horse wounded, before being shot through the heart at the point of victory, dying on the field of Waterloo at the Duke of Wellington's finest hour. This medal is of particular relevance and importance as the year of course marks the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo, and Heyland's medal is likely to be one of the finest, if not the finest, Waterloo medals to be offered for sale this year.

Mark Quayle, Head of the Spink Medal Department, commented: 'This medal represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire a historic artefact, in this the anniversary year of one of the most famous battles of all time.'

Also topical, given the recent new interest in the period created by the hit TV series Indian Summers, is the fine Raj-period group of Orders and Medals to Sir Maurice Hallett, Governor of Bihar and the United Provinces during the 1930's and 1940's.

I just want an excuse to wear that fabulous outfit. The tassels alone must weigh a kilo each.
