Cheers

I have what may be a ancient Greek or Egiptian coin but I am struggling to identify it.
It was found buried in Lisbon by my aunt.

I can't offer much details on it but here is what I have:

Lettering seems Greek;
The inscription on the left seems: Ptolemy (in Greek)
Weight: 12 grams
Diameter: 27 milimeter
Metal: Probably brass

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards.

Welcome!
It reads PTOLEMAIOU PHILOPATOROS, for Ptolemy IV Philopator. Unfortunately, I'm seeing many of the casting bubbles that indicate a replica, and it has a very close resemblance to this copy of a Ptolemy IV octadrachm for sale on Etsy:

Great work! I also think it is probably a fake coin. I was suspicious of the markings on the surface for they appear caused by casting metal (as opposed to striking).
Any how I would still love to know more about the coin. Can you give me some more hints?
Is this a replica of a coin that really existed or merely a fantasy item?

Many thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome.

Your coin, the one posted by Philadelphian above, and this one on eBay are all replicas of a gold octadrachm. I can't find a picture of a genuine one on the Internet with this exact same design; there may only be one surviving original coin with this design, presumably in a museum somewhere. There are pics of similar coins, such as the one labelled "Svoronos 1139" on this Wildwinds page.

Yours is much less "convincing" than the other two; it is presumably a copy-of-a-copy-of-a-copy, made for selling to tourists rather than collectors.
