Charlton 2015 was compiled Sept 2014 when US=CDN exchange rate. So CDN dollar is down 25% now, do we assume Charlton is USD?

I see---so 2015 catalog (based on May 2014 prices) has lost 25% in value to the US dollar. To price a $1000 catalog coin sell it for $750 USD.

And yet another reason all of our better Canadian coins are going south. We adjust our pricing with the exchange rate. Sales this year have been wonderful. Of the last 20 200 dollar plus coin sales over 85 per cent to US buyers. Keep dropping !

Our (my wife has an ebay store and I do back office for her) experience is somewhat the opposite of Pacificcoin's in that the bulk of our sales go within Canada. That being said our ebay sales last month were more than double our usual with a few US buyers being a significant part of that increase. Charlton, Trends etc look at prices over a period of time so don't immediately reflect sharp changes in coin values; whether due to currency changes, new finds or whatever. But it does get factored in eventually. It took a couple of years after the financial crisis for Charlton and Trends to get caught up to the sudden drop in demand for coins. Charlton 2014 & 2015 seem to indicate a bottoming out from that fall and I'm somewhat hopeful that Charlton 2016 will show a generally positive price movement because of factors including the drop in the value of the loonie, no further dramatic drops in the prices of precious metals and so on.

@Pacificcoin: Not sure what @mycoins is referring to but there's a new layout for the purchases page that makes life difficult. Also the changes they made to the bids page a couple of months back don't work properly; it keeps marking auctions as being "outbid" when you're actually still the leading bid or even when you have the ONLY bid. And it's awkward when you're dealing with auctions in US$s as it converts them to CDN $s so it looks like you've actually been outbid when you haven't (used to show both denominations). They've implemented the 'hide' function in both cases but in different ways (check boxes and button for bids vs menu item for purchases). The purchases page no longer shows the date/time of the purchase so you can't easily keep track of when combined shipping time limits run out anymore. They've changed up the Cancel process. A couple of weeks back they went through a 'glitch' where they didn't charge the buyer the shipping cost for the item for a period of a day or two. Today they keep sending "You've been outbid" emails although she has a second bid in place that's still the leading bid. All kinds of links in the help no longer work as they haven't been updated. That's just stuff I've noticed and springs readily to mind of course.

Kuh thanks for the info. We are basically NOT doing any auctions anymore. Nancy and I are trying to basically price stuff in U.S. Dollars and accepting a reasonable counter if we are a bit high. The move close to the U.S. Border is working wonders for us right now. Our sales are WAY above last year. I think a lot of this is the U.S. Economy has really improved and the falling Canadian dollar has been a huge benefit. Over 70 per cent of our sales are now export.

Pacific: Do you have a US shipping point as well as a Canadian one? Just the shipping costs from Canada alone put some smaller coin purchases off the wall.

@Pacific, Kuh-85 hit the nail on the head, Thanks Kuh, also may I add they have also been doing this You must Pay if you want us to show your auctions, How ever there is no guaranty they will. Added to that is they have implemented a Cap as to how much they will allow a seller to make. If you reach it they stop promoting your items.

Okie absolutely we have a U.S. Address. We are aiming to have 80 to 90 per cent export sales by the end of 2016. We just moved close to the U.S. Border and we Walk our stuff across to the USPS facility in Sumas WA. All you do is fill out the appropriate US customs form and away you go. There are no issues with coins or small collectibles at all. We are able to track and ship at the same low cost as any U.S. Ebayer which makes us way more competitive and puts us on equal footing. We have virtually given up selling coins in Canada . Tracking is stupid expensive as you stated and just way too many issues if you don't track. The oh I didn't get routine is pure poppycock and most of the issues are with Canadian ten to twenty dollar buyers. Having worked for Canada Post for over 22 years I can tell you that if you ship in a clearly properly marked and addressed bubble Pak with a return address on it sorry it does not get lost. Thank goodness I still have a pal in security. Seven "oh I did not get its " magically disappeared When the bidiots got a call from Canadapost security! ebay works quite well if you control your bidiots. Actually okie I can see us listing in the future "we ship only to the U.S. Unless you pay tracking at your cost anywhere else " That would be ironic considering I have been a coin dealer in Canada for over 42 years now.

Pacific: That's what I thought that you mentioned when we spoke in the pub during the Landon sale. I personally don't see how Canadian dealers can afford shipping costs from there and stay competative. The postage has got to be a killer for $50-$200 items to small buyers. I have personally almost stoppped buying from Canadian dealers.

Unfortunately that is the reality of it. ebay rules make it very difficult for sellers in all countries unless you can prove tracking..We set up our stamps.com account this week and now our Tracking is free in the U S . Yesterday we had yet another Canadian oh I didn't get it complaint. Our new policy as of today. Unless we have a proven track record with the customer and have sent stuff to them before , over fifty bucks US. It goes tracked at the buyers expense.quite frankly I am sick of self insuring and leaving our good name wide open to bidiots , lying through their teeth to get a free cheap item. That aside next time in TO we can share a pub visit ! Have a good one JN

I say the two of you say meet in the middle... perhaps Winnipeg ! It's a pretty swanky town I tell ya! Than make sure you lemme know... !! Now on to this thread... I think it also goes the other way... when I'm looking at some coins I find that the shipping from U.S. can get outrageous! I think it's because some global shipping program of ebay's.... But I get around that by having them shipped to a U.S. address it saves a tonne on shipping! Pac. You're lucky you're a stone's throw from the boarder so you can make the trip. There may be other people that just can't do that and I think it can/will diminish the sales and potential market they have. I know of one bookseller here in the city who pretty much runs their business by sending one of their employees across the boarder at least once a week to ship items to the U.S... (that's what pays the bills and keeps the doors open and everything sold locally or even in Canada is pretty much gravey)
