Hello folks. Unfortunately last Thursday I decided to mail a USPS Small Flat Rate Box containing $50 face of 1976 Biecentennial half dollars, and today I received word that package arrived empty upon the post office. With such small profit margins as I was doing it just to make the coin counting a bit easier, I'm surely not going to be selling these again. What is the best solution that I can hope for besides accepting return since I taped around it (I sent a similar package today though it isn't as heavy with just 58 half dollars so I'll keep my fingers crossed) with some paper to give the package some stability and I even did a "drop test" by dropping the package five feet from the air and it didn't bust open, but unfortunately it appears that the Whammy took $60 from me. Has anyone else had similar problems with somewhat heavier coins as before I lost about 25% of a large penny lot in a large flat rate box?

Staff note: I have split your post out to its own thread. Next time, please start your own thread rather than ask your question in someone else's topic that is over a month old.

That stinks. Imo the box didn't "break open." Don't know a lot about these things, but I would certainly try to file insurance claim with the Post office. For that small amount they might pay it.

Did you insure the package? If not, the insurance coverage is only $50 and doesn't cover coin/currency.

It comes with $50 insurance- It DOES cover coin/currency of numismatic value- This winter I had 2 flat rate envelopes disappear at the same sort facility the same day, filed a claim after 15 days, and got $50 on each package... Unfortunately, they were both $100+ packages...

Good for you that they gave you the full $50. Sometimes they try to consider them "coins or bullion" and give you $15. Perhaps the key is use the term "numismatic" products. Personally I would never trust USPS with that. I would sooner dump them in a coin machine than worry about it.
