I find it interesting even more so when watching TV pitchmen and women trying to convince you to buy Gold and Silver coins. They tell you how the economy is unstable, how foreign countries are buying up precious metals because they are on the gold, silver or both standard for their currency. How scarce the metals are getting because of lack of mining or usage in manufacturing and medical uses. How the government prints trillions of dollars because of not being on the gold and silver standard and if the economy goes broke then the gold and silver you buy from them will be worth the cost to purchase it. I'm sure I've missed some things but it sure is curious because when you pay them however they are paid with cash not Gold or Silver or any precious medals. I find it very curious and interested as to what all of you think.

Jbuck I agree with you but as collectors we will buy our gold and silver because we are collectors and not for their reasons.

Before money people bartered and traded with goods or services. As the economies grow and demand for a more universal currency arises precious metals are then valued and put into an economy. Governments form and eventually create a monetary system that starts with precious metals, then is based on representing precious metals and now is to the point where the money we hold isn't worth much at all yet still "represents" a form of currency that can be traded for goods or services.
You don't have to like the system but like it or not you're already part of it.
Yes you're right those PM middle men that are pushing a product are asking for your money... there's a touch of irony there I get it. But you also can't pay for your groceries at the store with poured bar of silver... (I assume you can't... I haven't tried I like to keep my silver in my safe and minimize the times I look like a fool)
Will the dollar collapse? will silver or gold skyrocket? Will the governement sieze bank accounts and bank assets? I couldn't tell you my crystal ball is in the repair shop.
But I like silver.. and I like gold.. so I buy 'em when I can afford to. I don't blame the seller for trying to make and provide for his family though...

I never thought of how or why those TV sales people get paid for the coins they are trying to sell. What I really like about those shows is how they keep on telling the public how great a deal whatever they are selling is. "Why here is a coin worth thousands and I'm selling it to you for only a few dollars"

Hello guys were definitely the U.S. mint and we would like to sell you an incredibly rare Buffalo nickel with the incredible amount of only like 25 milligrams of gold! This incredible amount of gold is offered for not $50, not 40, but A crisp $25 USD (plus $5 shipping and handling.) This totally isn't a scam! it's gold!

We also know how to get a better deal than what they are offering. Our job here is to make sure everyone knows they can get a better deal. I will never buy a coin from TV. I will watch sometimes to just see what they are hawking and some times I pick up a piece of history I did not know about the coin, but the rest of their diatribes are garbage.

TV has HUGE overhead, so anytime you see something advertised for sale (that can be ordered from the ad) you can rest assured you can get it somewhere else cheaper. (even those things "not available in stores", are available in stores.)
