I found this while metal detecting. What is this a coin or token?
I know it is worn and partially corroded, but does it have any value?

Where did you find it?
It looks kind of like a Vermont token, which were widely counterfeited at the time.

Hello and welcome.

I believe it is actually an ancient Carthaginian coin. Compare with the example on this Wildwinds page. Judging by the huge broken hole pierced in it, it was presumably worn on a necklace and subsequently lost.

Here is another example similar to that posted by 'Sap'. Scroll down to "North Africa: Bronze".

I did find it in New Jersey. Thank you all for finding similar coins. The Obv. Looks like the person has a helmet of some sort. I wonder how it got to New Jersey and does it have any value in the condition that its in.

I also believe this is an ancient coin from Carthage. The bust appears to be Tanit.

I'm going to move this over to the ancient coin section for more information.

Report it to the "History" channel and they might give you your own show complete with speculation of ancient trans-Atlantic trade :)
