I'm leaning toward someone dropping a bunch of solder onto it to try and do some sculpture and then trying to remove the result. And honestly I don't think I could do any better with it even holding it in my hand. We could beat our heads against it until we were all bleeding, and not come any closer to certainty. Cascade Pillar of the Community United States 7390 Posts	Posted 04/27/2015 4:20 pm Good pickup dave, I'll go one further and now I'm 90% sure of alteration... look at the rim toning behind liberty's head, it skips from solid to fade to solidish again and you can see how the fade was as strong as the top. And follows the theory and pattern of the bottom obverse being messed with. Actually since the beginning of me writing this my suspicion has grown to 95%.
