The coin is a counterfeit - actually a numismatic forgery because it was not made to circulate as money. It was created recently to fool collectors. The coin was created from an image that was transferred using either a computer engraving or electro-deposition method. In any event this die (or mold) was NOT made before the first half of the 20th century.
The reason a forger will make a poor looking product like this is that he can make a small profit selling to a new collector who accepts coins for what they appear to be. He does not need to spend a lot of money making better dies. A classic case of the same kind of terrible forgery selling readily is the 1882 Zs 8 Reales from Mexico. The coins are produced in huge numbers in China where they can be purchased for as little as ten cents US. That coin too is a hideous copy that no one but a novice would believe. Yet they are constantly appearing on
ebay posted by people who have gotten scammed or by people who are crooks. Right now there are two types on
