Hello, I am new to coin collecting and I am not sure if this qualifies as an error or not The mint stamp is messed up on this 1981 Jefferson nickel. It looks to be a P. I will upload a photo.

Looks like a the die chipped away in that area. Very common. Spend it.

Thank you silverstackerkid. So let me ask you this then, what qualifies as an error or a flaw?

This coin does; it's just so common as to add no extra value. The term "error" or "flaw" would depend on who you asked, although those answering the latter are just being cynical. It meets the numismatic definition of "error."

to the forum Mogul. I agree with the advice you've been given. It is my understanding an error coin is minted differently than intended. Some people collect them, however this coin is so heavily damaged from being in circulation, it needs to be spent. Condition is important in all of coin collecting. They don't have to be perfect, but (excuse me for saying this) that is one ugly coin.
