I did not find this but someone else did and they gave it to me. Lots of sentimental value. Is it even possible to have a die pair figured out on this one?

O.K. this is the N-7 die marriage which is an R.3 (scarce) variety. As far as grade I'll say AG-3 net graded to FR-2 for the damage.
So grading this coin I'll list it as:
1827 N-7 R.3 3/2-.
Great coin

The coin is in very good shape for a metal detecting find.

What is a good price? 10 bucks? I am not going to sell but I just am wondering.

AG details. If I was selling it and got $10 for it, I'd be happy,....so maybe a bit less.

Thank you. Is there a good place to find out values of these? I love large cents and want to learn more about them.

You can try Numismedia:
http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/fmv.shtml
The listed prices are high but you can get a ball park estimate on large cents.

Another great resource is the Heritage Auctions archives to search for rare coins like large cents and other early copper coins.
http://coins.ha.com/heritage-auctio...hives-122214

For attributing large cents from 1816-1857 I use "Untited States Copper Cents 1816-1857" By Howard Newcomb. It is available online here:
http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?...ew=1up;seq=9

Keep hanging out in the classic coin forums and you'll see a lot of cool large cents.
