Welcome and I too am from NJ, but now live 300 miles north of Bergen County because property taxes in NJ got crazy. We moved north in 1990 to an area that you can get 5x as much land and a house 2x as big as the cape we had and pay 1/4 the tax bill we use to pay in NJ.
I use to buy my coins in Closter at R&R Coins and Oradell at a coin store near the AmTrak. Many many dealers/shops in NJ. Hopefully you found a good dealer to work with. There was a dealer in New Milford that was a crook and a few shows I went to was 90% crooks selling over graded or cleaned coins at the price of a coin that is uncleaned etc.
Seen some nice keys that were ruined when people try to make them look better such as a 1928
Peace dollar that looked nice until you held it just the right way to show very fine linear scratches reflected back that only appeared when getting the lighting right. The dealer said its a cart wheel and was pushing to make the sale. I stated its been rubbed and a real cartwheel moves with rotation/wobble of the coin and moved on not buying the troubled coin. Looking back now I probably could have made money buying it and selling it 20 years later, but trouble free coins are the way to go.
