Stack's Bowers - United States Coin of the Week, A spectacular PCGS-certified 1922 Matte Proof-66 Peace dollar, one of fewer than a dozen traced with any certainty, will be among the many highlights in our May 20, 2015, Rarities Sale, to be held in conjunction with our offering of Part I of the D. Brent Pogue Collection in New York City. Peace dollars came about through legislation after World War I that allowed the coinage of silver dollars to replace the silver used up by the war effort. It wasn't until 1921, however, that the price of silver was attractive enough to the Mint to begin striking the new Peace silver dollars. Peace dollar Proofs of 1921 and 1922 were struck with great care - and in limited numbers - at the Mint. Indeed, numismatist and author Roger Burdette called Proofs like the offered coin: "The best rendition of the Peace dollar to leave the Mint," high praise indeed. Read the Entire Article

I can count on one hand the number of coins which would give me a pride of ownership in the same class as this example. No possible objection to the quality and beauty of a Peace dollar, as many are wont to offer, can possibly apply here.
