It was originally posted in a coin group on Facebook, found in his change. Plenty people believed it was a fake. Personally, I think it's the work of The Royal Mint Gremlin, legitimate mint error but not accidental. Similar to one in Change Checker where the outer ring has been struck with the Victoria Cross 50p design and the inside struck with the Brunel Portrait £2 design.
However, having read the post back, the whole coin is cupro-nickel which throws me off somewhat.
