According to this the £2 coin with Britannia will be replacing the Technology £2 coin which has been used since 1997.

So this means new reverse and observe since the Queen's portrait is changing.

This brings up an interesting question....which coins from this http://www.royalmint.com/shop/The_2...ual_Coin_Set will actually circulate?

We know 100 of Royal Navy ones were put into circulation.

Love the design.
Glad to see it back on circulating coins

BUT I think it's extremely cheeky of the RM to bring this out part-way through the year
after selling who knows how many "Year Sets" without it.

I love to see Britannia on coins but I don't like this interpretation. Look at that nose and jaw line. She looks like a man.

Masterstroke!

Just when, between them, counterfeiters had managed to fake just about everything about the Technology £2 coin except the hologram, which is evidently to be discontinued!

Does anyone else think it's a terribly bland design?

It certainly doesn't have anything to go with Britannia. Previous coins have had say, a lighthouse and the sea line, a boat, other coins will have something floral. Until it's seen in the hand it's difficult to know how it would appeal or not.

I don't know that it's bland, but it doesn't have the presence as a penny or an Edward VII florin say.

Couldn't agree more with Mr. T. One of the smartest things the US mint did was re-introduce the Walking Liberty design for the silver and gold bullion coins, the Indian Head and Buffalo, etc.

They could have gone with modern designs and themes, which would have probably crippled sales.

The UK has some outstanding designs from the past, the large penny obverse, the Gothic designs, etc., and they'd be well advised to look at them seriously for their coinage. Corporate logo artwork and soccer players on national coinage and currency only makes it look like empty-headed teenagers are in charge of the nation that adopts it and removes a certain amount of the public trust in their money and their government.
