An open letter to the new eye doctor in Jerusalem by the editor of Ha-Herut newspaper article in Hebrew from July 1912 states, "The poor of our city are complaining about the hardships that are imposed upon them to pay one mejdiyah [m-j-d-y-h] at their first visit..." Does someone know if this is referring to an Egyptian coin or some other currency? Thanks in advance for responses.

The para (from the Ottoman Empire) was called medine, meidin, etc. in Egypt. So that may be it ... just a guess though. See
