Dionysus gets a 'bum rap' due to many ancient and modern art works which depict the poor fellow at his worst.
He actually was held in a higher regard by the ancients. The great spring festival in Athens was devoted to Dionysus and the highlight of the weeklong party this the theater ! Aeschylus Sophocles and Euripides premiered their epic tragedies in a competion held each evening. Trilogies focused on Bronze Age heros are one of the truly magnificent legacies of Ancient Greece.
The proper way to understand the underlying theory is that Dionysus was very much the God of the "first bottle".

That's the one where inspiration and creativity are the goal ! Not inebriation !
Artists have had much more fun showing the poor guy after the "last bottle".

Who among us would want our legacy to that picture of ourselves on our worst day to go 'viral' !

By the way .......
Nice coin !
